New art completed – “Line Up the Shot”

I had a shoot last night with model Kym, so I was delayed in scanning and uploading the new painting, but it was finished yesterday as I had hoped.
I worked on the details, first with colored pencils, blending them in by hand, and then with a brush dipped in turpenoid with the oil pastels to get the fine details of the skin and face. I painted the soles of the shoes with brown and black, adding a white highlight when dry. I finished the hair using colored pencils and some oil pastels, giving me a broader range of color, and also easier blending into the skin where it overlapped. I washed some more brown into the wood of the dart board, and finished it up with some colored pencils for a bit more grain. The final touch was chalk pastels on the score boards, blended out by hand to give the sense of a chalkboard being used over and over again.

It’s now up on the website here.

Line Up the Shot

New art completed today – “Dreamer”

I spent Friday working on the details. I made an error in choosing to start with oil pastels mixed with turpenoid, as it takes time for that set up, and so those areas couldn’t be touched again until later. This slowed my progress down, but gave me time to reflect on the overall image and make (hopefully) better judgments. When I could, I further detailed with colored pencils, and also washed over the lingerie with pink and gray gouache to tone it down and fit better with the skin tones.
The final step was using colored pencils on the painted areas (mostly the shoes and eyes) to get the colors I wanted for them without the risk of pulling up the paint already applied.
This morning I looked it over one last time, verifying it’s all as I want it to be, then scanned and uploaded it this afternoon. It’s now available here.

Completed New Art today – “Have a Bite”

The detailing today was straight-forward. I started with colored pencils, working on adding some color to the cheeks, nose and hands, as well as adding details like eyebrows and hair wisps. Then I used some oil pastels with my fingers when possible, and with a tortillion for the smaller areas, blending in the colored pencils, and deepening the contours. To finish the skin areas, I used a brush dipped in turpenoid with the oil pastels to paint in the final details. I completed the piece with some final gouache painting in the hair, dress, and lips.
It’s now completed and available here.

Have a Bite

New art completed today – “Me Jane”

Yesterday I worked on all the detailing. I started with colored pencils on the face, adding details lost from the oil pastels coverage, and also adding in some more color and shading. I blended that in with more oil pastels, as well as using the pastels already applied. Before over-working the areas, I switched over to using a brush with turpenoid and oil pastels to finish the skin details. Next, I used colored pencils again, this time for the hair detail. Then I painted in a foreground plant and added a few green bits in the ground. I was about to call it complete with I thought about adding a necklace (which is why I didn’t get this done and posted last night). Before risking any damage to the actual painting, I tested the look on the reference image in photoshop. It worked for me, so I used a brush and turpenoid again to draw it on over the skin.
This morning I had it scanned, and it’s now available here.

Me Jane

New artwork completed – “Poison”

I got caught up in the work yesterday, so I failed to stop and take a picture when I finished blocking in the skin areas. With so few areas and small space, it didn’t take long to do, so I quickly moved into the detail work.
After creating the main contours of the skin with colored pencils and oil pastels blended in, I used colored pencils on top to refine the facial features. I also used more oil pastels to build up more depth and color in the cheeks and nose. I continued down, adding details to the neck and arms, then the thighs (mostly just subtle shadows around the clothing). Before going back to the face for the make-up design, I painted the fingers using gouache. It’s a bit of a trick matching the skin tones to the oil pastels on the arms, especially since gouache dries a different tone than it is when wet (one of many reasons I no longer use only paint in my work). Luckily, gouache is easy to rework by getting it moist again, so I would add a bit of color here and there to mix it on the board until it matched to my liking. Next, I painted the nails green and also the little ribbon showing in her left glove. While this yellow-green mix of paint was still wet on the palette, I painted very lightly some highlight edging on the dress to help bring it out away from the background.
The the paint done, I returned to oil pastels, this time using them with a brush dipped in turpenoid. I painted the eyeliner with black, adding lashes as well. Then I mixed a dark green and painted the make-up. I didn’t realize it is very similar to the character ‘Dawn’ by Linsner until I was adding the highlights to the drips. Perhaps it was in my subconscious, but I really didn’t want to repeat someone else’s work. At least mine has numerous drips and is green, so not a direct copy, thankfully.
I’m content with it today, so I’ve scanned and uploaded to the website, ready to view here.

Poison

New art completed – “Luscious”

I started on the details last night, and spent the whole day today completing them. Mostly done with colored pencils, I did bring out the turpenoid and oil pastels for a few fine details at the end. I also touched up some painted areas, deepening the color of the lips and darkening the black leather on the bra. I had considered earlier if I would do any more texturing to the fur, but it feels right to me as is.
It is now available here.
