New Art completed – Is It Hot in Here?

Today, as well as part of yesterday, I worked on detailing this piece. I started with colored pencils, blending in by hand, then I used turpenoid mixed with oil pastels to brush on more details.
It’s now complete, and available here.

I spent yesterday working through the details of the entire piece. I wasn’t quite satisfied, so I held back scanning it as done…

Today I finished blocking in all the skin areas, using colored pencils and oil pastels…

This evening I began the detail work, starting with the face and her left hand. Neither are complete yet, but I expect the whole thing done tomorrow…

I also added the base for the cupcake icing, including the drops on her chest and the bit on her finger.

Work progress 11/01 – painting

I started the day masking the image as usual, but instead of setting up to airbrush the background, I unmasked the dress for airbrushing. I used a few tones of bright green acrylic over the entire dress, bringing in the darker tones for the subtle shading to give it shape.
Next, I removed all the masking and began painting. Much of the afternoon was spent painting acrylic white on all the dots of the dress. Then, I moved on to the face, painting the eye lines, eyebrows and lips with watercolors and gouache. I painted the hair next, using various browns. I finished the day painting the cupcake and the body outline…

Yesterday and today I spent going through photos once again, searching for ideas. I came up with a couple, and decided on this one…

It’s a take on a classic pin-up style image. As such, I may keep the background white and go right into the painting tomorrow.
