The detailing today was straight-forward. I started with colored pencils, working on adding some color to the cheeks, nose and hands, as well as adding details like eyebrows and hair wisps. Then I used some oil pastels with my fingers when possible, and with a tortillion for the smaller areas, blending in the colored pencils, and deepening the contours. To finish the skin areas, I used a brush dipped in turpenoid with the oil pastels to paint in the final details. I completed the piece with some final gouache painting in the hair, dress, and lips.
It’s now completed and available here.

Completed New Art today – “Have a Bite”
New Art added to the website – “Meow”
I worked on the details yesterday, completing it by late afternoon. I didn’t have time to post it though because I had a shoot with model Jill that evening (which went well).
The details were fairly simple, mostly working on the face and fingers. I added color to the face in small increments, standing back after each level to see if it was enough. I wanted to capture at least a hint of the actual model in the face, but also keep it more simple for the style. I hit a point I felt was right, so I moved on to the fine details of the eyes to complete the face. Lastly, I outlines everything, using oil pastels with turpenoid to paint the lines around the skin areas, and colored pencils for the rest. I kept the hair outline loose with a few strands sticking out to give it some texture and added flow.
It’s now complete and ready in the store here.
new art completed – “Purple Passion”
I got busy with other things these past two days, so I didn’t get this finished as soon as I had wanted. I worked on the details, mostly with colored pencils, then using a brush with turpenoid and oil pastels for the final nuances. A few areas didn’t hold the gesso as well as others, so it didn’t take long to over work them. They’re right on the limit of still looking good. Had I crossed that line I would have no choice but to strip off the area and re-apply the gesso and start over on the skin. I think I finally figured out the problem with the gesso – it’s the masking. Although it’s not supposed to leave any residue, I noticed a difference when painting the background between areas that had masking on it before and areas that didn’t. So, in the future, I think I will have to wash down the paper after removing the masking. Although this is my favorite frisket, I may have to switch to another one if this continues to be a problem.
In any case, it is now complete and ready in the store here.
work progress – details slowly coming in
This one is taking some time. Not sure if it’s my mind being fuzzy, or the subtle colors in this one are more complicated. In any case, I am making progress. I worked a lot on the face today, yet it still needs some finessing. The torso and arms are close to complete, as are the legs. Next step is to get the hands and feet completed, and finish up any other little details overall…
