New art today – “Your Call”

I spent Sunday and today working on the details of the new piece. I started with colored pencils, blending them with either my finger or a tortillion into the oil pastel base. I added further detail with the oil pastels and a brush dipped in turpenoid.
Content with it now, I’ve scanned and uploaded here.

Your Call

I had some extra time today, so I went through the new shoot, and although I was tempted to try a sexy witch in time for Halloween, I decided to do a nice closeup ‘glamour’ piece, something I haven’t done in quite some time. The shot worked pretty much as is, so little prep work needed to get it ready for drawing. I’ll show that in tomorrow’s post. :)

new art completed – “Medusa Triumphant”

This morning, the only thing I could see that needed some more work was her right hand, as it was fading into the background. I added a thin outline with colored pencils, and used white oil pastel to bring up the highlights on the fingers. With that done, I feel the whole piece is ready, so I had it scanned (luckily no problems with it being curled), and it is now available here in the store.

New Art finished – ‘Lakshmi’

Today I worked on all the details – the face, hands in oil pastels, then the headdress and sari trim details in gouache. It’s completed, and now available here.

New art completed – Where There’s Smoke…

I spent the last few days working on the colored pencils and oil pastels for the skin. Once the areas were blocked in, I went through all the details. One section of the arm gave me some trouble, so I scraped off everything with a razor (lucky the gesso comes off smoothly for this purpose). Once all remaining oils have been removed/erased, I re-applied the gesso, let it dry, then went back to working colored pencils and oil pastels. Much better this time.
I must admit, this image isn’t my favorite design. I’m not into smoking, nor vintage 30′s looks, but I wanted to do something different. Consequently, I didn’t have my heart in making this piece. Still, I think it came out okay, and am glad it’s done. It’s available now here.

New art completed – Sexy Bass’d

I spent the day working on all the details, first using colored pencils, then some oil pastels mixed with turpenoid. I wasn’t sure if I was going to add the stars to the kerchief, but after everything was completed, it felt empty and undefined, so I put them in with white gouache. It’s finished now, and available here.

New art added to the store – Evil Queen

I’ve scanned the finished painting and although there is a texture from the spray varnish I used in the background, I think it adds a nice haze, so I’m keeping it. I now have it ready in the store here.

New Art completed – Is It Hot in Here?

Today, as well as part of yesterday, I worked on detailing this piece. I started with colored pencils, blending in by hand, then I used turpenoid mixed with oil pastels to brush on more details.
It’s now complete, and available here.

work progress – finishing the details

I worked on all the details today. I started with white acrylic paint for the hair clips, making them bright and solid against the black hair. Then I used acrylic and gouache to add color to the pieces.
Next, I used colored pencils to outline everything, and add some more details to the face. Then, I used a gray gouache wash on the blouse to deepen its shadows and bring out more detail.
Finally, I used oil pastels and colored pencils to finish the face. I believe it is completed now, but too late to scan. So, for now, here’s a quick photo of it…

New Art completed – Witch Magic

I almost called it done last night after spending the day working on the details, but some thing seemed a bit off, so I hesitated. Today, I worked on those issues and am now calling it complete. It’s now in the store here.
